Why should you get creative this January?
As an artist who specialises in workshops for health and well-being, I couldn’t endorse exploring creativity more. My workshops are designed to help individuals and businesses tap into their creative potential. Whether it's fostering teamwork, improving mental health, or simply allowing for self-expression, getting creative has far-reaching benefits. Trust me, I have not only experienced it, but I have witnessed it with my own eyes.
The Power of Creativity in Everyday Life
Creativity isn’t just for artists, writers, or designers. It’s for everyone. When we get creative, we open our minds to new possibilities. We let go of inhibitions and free ourselves from the pressures of perfection. Creativity offers a fresh lens through which to view challenges, making it a valuable tool for both personal growth and business success. For businesses, fostering creativity can lead to innovative solutions, improved teamwork, and better problem-solving. For individuals, it’s a gateway to relaxation, self-discovery, and emotional well-being. This is why International Creativity Month exists—to remind us all to prioritise creativity and integrate it into our lives.
A Magical Retreat in Wales
This January, I had the pleasure of hosting a nature-inspired art workshop as part of Honor’s “Magical Midlife Metreat” at Wern-Y-Cwm Farm in Wales. It was the perfect setting to kick off International Creativity Month, and I couldn’t have imagined a more inspiring way to celebrate the start of the year. Here, I experienced first-hand how transformative creativity can be. The retreat, run by the amazing Honor of Honesty with Honor, was the first of her 2025 events and was designed to help women recharge, connect, and focus on themselves, for a change.
The farm is nestled on the Skirrid mountain, offering breath-taking views and a serene environment. The facilities are first-class, making it impossible for anyone to stay stressed for long. It’s a place that invites you to slow down, breathe deeply, and soak in the beauty of nature.
Nature-Inspired Art and Letting Go

My role at the retreat was to guide a nature-inspired art workshop. My aim was simple: encourage the women to truly look at the world around them, appreciate the intricate details of nature, and translate that inspiration onto the canvas.I believe that art is as much about the process as it is about the result. So, I encouraged the group to let go of their inhibitions and embrace their creativity without overthinking it. We mixed colours, played with textures, and used all sorts of tools—some traditional, like brushes, and others unconventional.
The experience was freeing. Honor described it beautifully, saying, “There was a wonderful feeling of being at kindergarten again. So freeing. I had no idea what I was painting and then it came… a little tiny sailboat, an homage to my late dad.”
That’s the beauty of creativity. It connects us to our emotions, our memories, and the things that truly matter. It’s not about creating a masterpiece; it’s about the journey and that's why you should get creative this January. Still not convinced? Listen to the results...
The Magic of Women Coming Together
Something truly magical happens when women come together to focus on themselves. At the retreat, the group bonded over their shared experiences, laughter, and the simple joy of creating.
For many of the attendees, this was a rare opportunity to step away from their usual roles as caregivers, nurturers, and problem-solvers for others. Taking time to prioritise themselves felt like a revelation. As Honor so aptly put it, “When women get together, actually taking time out to focus on themselves, magic starts to happen.”
That magic was evident in the artwork created during the workshop. Each piece was unique, reflecting the individual behind it. But more importantly, each piece was a testament to the power of creativity to bring light, optimism, and self-worth to our lives.
Why Businesses Should Get Creative This January
The benefits of creativity aren’t limited to personal growth. For businesses, fostering creativity among employees can have a significant impact. Creative activities help reduce stress, improve mental health, and build stronger teams. When employees feel valued and supported, their productivity and job satisfaction soar. Team-building exercises, like group art workshops, can be a powerful way to achieve this. They provide a space for collaboration, open communication, and a fresh approach to problem-solving.
In a world where burnout and employee turnover are on the rise, creativity can be a game-changer. By investing in the well-being of their teams, businesses not only boost morale but also enhance staff retention.
